in 2011 it got a little quiet around the co-productions of fraenzen texas and ruede hagelstein aka the cheapers. but since the beginning of the new year the lights dont go out in their studio doing beats and sound. next to releases on areal records and bar25 the uy063 was born. title of the name giving a-side goes back on a quote from paris hilton who wants to tell with >amazeballs< how super cool she finds things. anyway the two artists made it real with their concise bassline which will make the people reliably squeak more than hobby djane hilton. on the b-side things turn a bit more severe: egyptian summer quotes with samples the arabic spring in africa and produces a revolutionary ground mood which has never been heard before. on b2 however there are the cheaperesque absurdities on the microfon like we know them. depositing skillfully their own vocals in the belly of a hungry electro monster.

grasscuts debut >1 inch: 1/2 mile< was named electronica album of the month in mojo magazine and was one of the sunday telegraphs top 10 pop cds of 2010. if that album featured a mix of songcraft and electronica, follow-up unearth tips the balance towards songs. its a more vocal record and both the legendary robert wyatt and gazelle twin contribute – alongside main vocals from grasscut composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist andrew phillips. unearth proves once again that phillips is a songwriter of note, truly traversing any notion of genre with seeming ease and considerable depth. grasscuts marcus o dair features on double bass, seb rochford of polar bear guests on drums.

36 hours in. the lights are flickering and the sweat is pouring out of you like the thoughts that you re trying to write down, to get down the words, to put down the message, to translate all the ideas that keep appearing in your head. ideas like uninvited guests that keep showing up and refusing to leave. somewhere though, there s a truth in there. you know it because you saw it. you know it because you felt it. because when you knew that even though there were ten million reasons why you should go to bed now, why you should go to bed straight away. that you should put these silly things down and stop trying to create and just get some sleep already. that you should stop trying to wrestle the ideas in your subconscious down to the ground so you can actually capture and express them to others. but you persist.

after a long silence iron curtis returns with his magic. thoughts on is the producer’s debut single for 4lux. proper house and disco tracks! the original mix of thoughts on is a banging deep house joint with haunting melodies and cut up vocals. the 2012 version provides for a more jumping bassline and hard hitting straight forward beats. iron curtis goes mental on oh come on with his cut up and vibe-heavy jazz samples and heavy pounding 808 beats. relentless! on interlude in the park the lights are dimmed and the tempo drops. a slow disco burner for those who love slow jams.

merc 009 sees another mark e 2 tracker with snow walker & environment. snow walker combines an uptempo relentless percussive hard nosed rolling drum rhythm, running parallel with shimmering disco lights, synth blobs and a messed up yeti vocal nag, nestling comfortably somewhere between the black country and the black forest. environment however pushes itself all deepness and glory with electronic female vox, looping sub bass boogie and a slow sasquatch techno sensibility.

the fact that they are the hottest band in the buzzing spanish independent music scene in itself may not be enough to stop the presses, nor are all the comparisions to the black keys or the band citing motorhead as their main influence. its hard to break into the crowded new band scene, but let us give you a piece of advice before deciding who should stop the presses - just sit and listen to the album first.

alex and bill met 16 years ago when bill signed one of alex s first productions (is this the rhythm? by rhythmnvibe) to a new york label he was running. alex, whose father lives in the us, was a regular visitor to the states and they sent many happy hours together hanging out at the sound factory bar and comparing maw dubs. when bill returned to the uk in 1996, they had a few sessions together making house music, though neither of them can remember why they never finished anything or, indeed, what became of the tracks. fast forward a few years and they finally got back into the studio to make sweet music together under the moniker hotel motel. since then they have created a rich seam of work that some have already described as, like salvador dali with his pants down being fellated by deirdre barlow. few would disagree.

the a12 motorway was wrapped in complete darkness. the lights of the windmills were blinking in the rhythm of the rotor blades passing by. they appeared just before sunrise. no one had ever seen this kind of creature ever before: red flashing, and bright shining alien butterflies attracted by the windmills. people stopped, and got out of their cars to watch this spectacle. the flying creatures were constantly creating new, kaleidoscope-like formations, and slowly, and very softly at first, they started singing. and although nobody really understood their behaviour, everybody understood their wistful and hopeful song.

fresh-faced berlin imprint, casual lab, launch their new house and techno stable with a double track and remix package from a new collaborative force. for casual lab, the italian veteran luigi gori has teamed up with one of its rosters rising stars sin tek aka 28- year-old anis hachemi to produce an infectious techhouse floor-filler. berlin stalwart marc poppcke offers a sultry deep house remix of the pairs debut collaboration for casual lab, dimming the lights and upping the groove to provide a glimpse of the citys smoldering club circuit. gog piaf wraps up the debut ep with another crisp, polished house offering from berlins effervescent pool of untapped talent. informed by nine years of classical training, gog piafs productions blend technicality with a far ranging source of influences and styles enough to charm any dancefloor.

the intermezzo ep kicks off with we are here, which could be easily described as get out part 2. a spoken word vocal over kerris trademark beats and instrumentation, musing on the subject of a busy schedule and calways available technology. so it begins again takes things down a much more tribal road, perfect for a big room, and the dc10 mix is a nod towards the direction kerri had in mind and the dancefloors he created this track for. the dark mix takes this idea even further with a more progressive feel as the track plays out. red lights explores a more live drum feel with a cut-up breakbeat playing a 4/4 rhythm, and a throbbing bassline and synth pattern. this one is a little deeper but still packs plenty of punch!
